Natchez Burning by Greg Iles
My September book is Natchez Burning by Greg Iles. This is the first Iles book I have read, and I loved it. Penn Cage, former Houston prosecutor turned successful author and mayor of Natchez, Mississippi, becomes immersed in a tangle web of murder and deceit, rooted in the Civil Rights movement of the early 1960s. This is book 4 in the Penn Cage series, but is the first book in a trilogy of books set in Natchez, Mississippi. It stands alone, but I can hardly wait to read the series from the start. Check out the author’s website and the NPR interview with the author. If you would like to start from the beginning of the character’s story before he arrived in Mississippi, check out The Quiet Game (1999).
