Kimberly’s August Recommendation

visitation streetBeginning on a hot summer night in an area of Brooklyn called Red Hook, this novel is a page-turner from the first few  pages.  June and Val, two teens looking for some adventure take a pink rubber raft out onto the dock-lined bay where the East River ends and the Atlantic begins putting into motion a series of mysteries.  All the novel’s diverse set of characters, from a Lebanese bodega owner to a talented, ex-con graffiti  artist are worth caring about as is the neighborhood they inhabit. Personal struggle, redemption, hope, change, and grief collide in this novel with such a strong sense of place.  Read this while it is still warm and you will be transported to Red Hook.
